Well, well, well

Signed my return today. Refund is gonna be good. Really good. Except my state refund is teeeny tiny. Numbertwo told me that I’m the first person he’s heard from that even got a state refund. I claim zero exemptions and even have them withhold an extra $10, but that’s only coming out of federal. I gotta see if they’ll do that for state.

Now I’m wondering what to do with this bounty (along with the 4.5 hours of overtime I got Sunday morning when some dickhead set off a fire extinguisher in one of our elevators). I had been planning on sending it off to Citibank.

But what if I just kept it?

It’d cut my balance in about half, but I’ve got more dental work coming up, I really don’t know how much. I need a root canal on a molar, then a crown for that, then we’ll see what starts hurting. Easily could be another $500-$600. So why pay down something that will just pop back up? What if I bank the money, keep saving additional money until my move out goal of April and just have a fat nut to sit on? Pay off the card over time, maybe pay for my molar work with cash. The tax rebate is coming up this Spring/Summer and I’ll have a 3 paycheck month in, um, August, so I could make fairly large credit card payments and still be sitting pretty for a while.

Maybe even put some of it into a CD or something.

And I’ve thus far successfully contained my abject lust for an iPhone. I played with one of over the weekend and it almost made me weep. I caught myself thinking “I get the iPhone now, and get retroactive birthday presents for it. That makes sense, right?”

Bad thoughts.

FUCK I hate country music. Except for Randy Travis, he’s pretty hard to dislike. I remember in high school when his first single dropped everybody from the headbangers to the gangstas liked that one.

The live version of Stigmata by Ministry is 9:31 long. It’s great until 6:32, when it devolves into Al screaming FUCK (noun). Fortunately iTunes can end a song whenever the user wants. Awesome.

Dieting blows, but the weight is coming off. My goal is still 200 and today I was 215.

Jesus, why does anyone read this? Is the minutiae of my life that fascinating? Come to think of it, why do I post it?

Georgia’s visiting! Yay!!!! That’s probably gonna make an impact on the money I’ve saved so far, but so will the CPA, so, oh well, I guess. As long as nothing pushes me too far into April it’s all good.

Citibank statement is in, and it’s not nearly as bad as I feared. On $4,200 (gah!) my minimum payment is only $99 something, with interest of about $55. The last grand or so of dental work and, um, other stuff is still in the 30 days before interest gets charged, so that will go up a bit.

My APR is two points lower than I remember it. Dunno what’s up with that, but I’ll take it.

I feel good about this situation. I’m still on track for moving in April, especially if the rents I’ve found in my online research are close.

C’mon tax refund! Wooo!

Finances, like, suck.

My insurance plan year runs from April to April, not the calendar year. So I not only used up all of my ration, but I owe my dentist about $600.

February is a three paycheck month for me, so I can cover it, but I was figuring that would be a fat savings paycheck.

Oh well.

Monday I’m planning on taking my tax forms to the CPA. Hopefully that’s good. That and what my new minimum payment after all this dental work (which I should know in the next few days) determines what happens in the next few months.

In good news, research indicates there are apartments downtown significantly under what I’d been budgeting. Which means more spending money and saving up move in money will go by quicker. I’ve got a good start on that.
