Summer time….

May 31st, 2007 No comments

Feeling better. At least, my cold seems to be gone. All indications indicate this summer is going to be a stone bitch for allergies.

Job hunt seems to be going well. Finding jobs to apply for, getting calls back for interviews. Feeling good right now.

Ready to get writing again. SO ready, in fact.

Turned on the air conditioner about an hour ago. Damn, air conditioning is awesome. I didn’t clean it or anything first, tho. My refrigeration teacher would probably kick my ass for that.

Grey’s Anatomy finished strong. I mean. Wow.

I almost gave up. The second half of this season was, at times, SO bad.

But, seriously. I don’t think Shonda could have wreaked more havoc with a bomb.

Vicodin is awesome.

I took a half earlier today for my sore throat and it knocked it down well into endurable levels. I mangled another trying to cut it in half and just took the whole thing.

I feel goooooooooooood. A little warm, so I’m gonna hafta make sure I drink some extra water and take a blanket off my bed.

I was, in fact, so stoned I forgot to post this last night. Tee hee.

Well, poop

Didn’t get that job. Would be nice if they didn’t have such a fucking drawn out process for that.

Hopefully the HOT HR chick will come back into the bar. Va-va-va-voooom!

My throat is killing me, it’s just raw, not strep or anything. Apart from the thick dark green phlegm I’d say I wasn’t sick any more. Today I sleep. A lot.

Sick. I was looking through my old, old blog and apparently I get sick a lot more often than I realize. Seems like every other post I was talking about being sick.

Oh well.

New job still up in the air. Dude said he wanted to have a decision made yesterday so I called him today and he said he hadn’t yet. I guess that’s better than “we no hire you!”

Had my final interview today. Seemed to go alright. The money is acceptable. Dude said there were other candidates and he hoped to make a decision by Monday. So, as usual, we’ll see.

In fucked up news, check this shit out.
Bike helmet crushed, but head fine.
Always wear that motherfucking helmet.

Not replacing koalas as my number one, but pandas are pretty freaking cute

Two more weeks (and change)

May 11th, 2007 No comments

That’s how long I have left on my internship. Two weeks, plus a day to make up for the job fair and another day to make up for leaving early for interviews and coming late because of an attack of teh dumb.

Speaking of interviews I had my second interview yesterday. Met with the store manager who complained that the HR chick had asked all of the questions in “his” part of the interview process. So it was another interview of him talking and then stopping to ask if I had any questions. I hate those. I tried to jump in with responses and examples from my past but it was mostly him talking about what a great place it is to work. Which is a: his job and b: not illuminating him about me. Anyhoo there’s at least one more interview with the area manager of maintenance dude. No money was discussed at this interview, which was okay as I was really unprepared. I have a figure in my head but it’s pretty much pulled out of my ass. I need to do some research.

Hung out with Dingo for the first time in, well, fuck I don’t even know. That was cool. Been a nutso time for him, job, family, home, pretty much everything’s shaken up. I actually can’t remember the last time I hung out with him, and I haven’t hung out with any of that circle of friends since I started working at SoLo. That’s going to last through the summer.

Graduation approaching rapidly, but all post-school planning is on hold until I get this job thing sorted out. I’m also stacking up a list of movies I need to rent once I have time to watch them.

Oh, in other news, I think I’ve given up on Grey’s Anatomy. I just don’t give a shit about any of the story lines and most of the characters. I don’t care about the race for chief, I don’t care about Callie and George (Callie isn’t that attractive and treats George like shit), I’m going to miss staring at Kate Walsh. Only the Jane Doe story (and I’m about a month behind on that) is at all interesting. The why did Meredith not swim question is interesting but it’s not going anywhere (but i’m about a month behind on that). The ensemble is unwieldy and possibly beyond Shonda’s abilities to control. And I LOVE ensemble casts. Strangely I’m only intrested in listening to the podcasts to learn about writing episodically.

I’ll probably gut it out to the end of the season, hope the writers can pull it out of the mud.

It’s no sleep time for Doom!

Job thang seems to be developing. Went in last Thursday to hit their silly little kiosk thing. Thought I was getting jerked around but then the random supervisor who came to meet me asked if I could come back the next day for an interview with the HR chick I’d met at the job fair. Considering I was in my maintenance clothes from the hotel I gladly said yes.

Next day in better clothes I rode over and interviewed. I never know how those things go so I won’t speculate. But I did find out the position had been open for several weeks and they hadn’t expected to find a candidate at the job fair. I spend a good bit of time touring the store with the fill-in dude (who is the area technician and is very eager for someone to be hired).

The store manager called me the next day for a second interview. So, w007. I’m going back this Thursday after the hotel.

Other than that classes are kinda sucky and I’m tired all the time. And I’m not working out. SO ready to be done with this stuff.

All momentous and shit.

Today I did three things, landmark things. At a level of landmarkedness I haven’t attempted in, well, about two years.

First, I submitted The Ugly Life to the Nicholl Fellowship. In all honesty I don’t think that is going to go any further. IIRC in 6-8 wks I’ll get some kind of notification that they received my submission. Thousands are entered every year, less than ten win.

Second, I petitioned for graduation from PCC. Diploma time, no degree time. Just an associate’s degree (of applied science, even) but it’s a $12,000 piece of paper. It better fucking be nice.

Third, and on a related note, I attended the PCC Job Fair which went pretty well. I turned in one application on the spot, was invited to submit another at the site (which is a Target store near my mom’s house, you hafta use their stupid little job kiosk, I’ll do that Thursday or Friday), and got a few really good leads. I haven’t gone through all the material I got or counted how many resumes I handed out yet.

Hopefully something will come from this, because the want ads and job sites aren’t particularly encouraging. While I was there I also found out that there’s an internship program to sit for the test for an electrical licence (which the Oregon branch of the electrician’s union has made all but fucking impossible if you’re not in their little club) that’s one night a week for two years. I’m going to find out more about that. Especially since I have to come back to take a few classes next year-ish.
