Revenge of the Shit…..

I just felt the need to link to this review to remind people again of what a truly terrible movie Revenge of the Sith was.

Everyone is the hero of their own story. Even Darkseid, the Jack Kirby comic book character on whom Darth Vader is based, was a hero in his own eyes. Revenge of the Sith was billed as the story of a good person who turns bad. But Anakin is an action figure who puts on a black cape. We are told that Anakin turns to the dark side because he loves Amandala, but almost immediately he forgets all about her. There is a hint that he lusts for power, but we never see that. In the final analysis, the reason he turns to evil is that in A New Hope he is evil. Predestination.

Beepy, bumpy stuff

This past Saturday I went to my first live electonica event. DJ Baby Anne at Level (which doesn’t seem to have a website). It was pretty fucking awesome. I’ve liked electronica for a long time but initially just trip hop and other chillout, downtempo stuff. Then I started hearing more dance oriented styles and realized I rather liked them. Particularly stuff I generally referred to as “scratchy-samply”. Some exploration identified this style as breakbeat. Particularly I enjoy the Florida variant as described here (and look who’s mentioned therein!!!!). Although I’ve also been more and more interested in jungle, but that’s not important now.

However, I can’t dance. I mean, really. My thang is decidedly ungroovy. So what’s with the dance music? Standing in front of the speakers at Level listening to her, uh, whatever verb is associated with DJs, it all became clear. While I was absorbing the densely layered sounds, I stopped thinking. This is a big deal for me. My brain is savagely hyperactive, the internal dialogue never stops while I’m awake even if I’m working on stuff. It can be really fucked up at times. I routinely take valerian so I can get to sleep in less than 45 minutes to an hour (although I’m out right now).

But breakbeat soothes the savage beast.

It was good.

Apart from that, nothing going on. Trying to ride the bike. Bought a $45 polyester shirt last week, supposed to keep me from becoming disgusting with sweat. Works, too. Wore it when I rode into downtown today. Was a little slick once I got down here, but when I took the shirt off, the sweat went with it, leaving me dry and comfortable. Well worth the money.

Oops, multiple update time.

1: Dingo’s house is out. Landlord doesn’t want anyone else moving in. Stuck at mom’s at least for the summer. Grrrr.

2: One of my friends is joining the army. Ships out Tuesday. Fucking moron.

3: I bought a bike. Wow. Those are a lot of work.

4: Tomorrow I register for classes at PCC. Unfortunately the program I’m on is mostly night classes. Is le poopy.

5: The Spirit is still pretty cool. I have 36.5 hours this week which was a surprise. I’ve mostly been working days, which is very cool.
