In Toledo, Ohio. Teachers get fired.

A lot of people talk about how great teachers are, how instrumental they were in their lives.

Yeah, not me. My teachers, especially in elementary school, were grumpy bureaucrats marking time until retirement. Some of them (my 6th grade English teacher) should be under permanent injunction against being in contact with kids. The other category were idealistic schmucks who couldn’t teach fundamental skills. Of course, in Portland Public Schools, teachers never get fired (including my physically abusive 5th grade teacher).

Which is why that article on NPR has me smiling.

How can we get this implemented everywhere?
